School Buses

  • Children who live more that 5 km from the campus are eligible for school bus transport as long as Strathalbyn R-6 is their closest campus and they are not passing another campus in order to attend.

  • Rules about bus eligibility are clearly defined by DECS who are responsible for running the buses.

  • Parents wishing to apply for school bus transport need to complete a request for school bus transport form available from the campus office. These applications are processed and parents informed in writing re eligibility for bus travel.  Students are not able to access the bus unless written confirmation is received and a bus pass is issued.

  • Students riding on school buses are expected to behave in a responsible manner and school staff follows up incidents reported by bus drivers.

  • Students may be suspended from the bus as a result of serious misbehaviour or repeated bus incidents.

Private Car

Due to the difficult parking situation around the campus and the potential dangers for pedestrians with so many cars dropping off and picking up children, parents are asked to be particularly careful about following the road and parking signs. Parking in prohibited areas may result in a parking fine.

A “Kiss and Drop Zone” has been developed outside of the campus on East Terrace. We ask parents to support this measure designed to provide drop off and pick up access outside the campus.

Pedestrian

Many of our children and their families choose to walk to school. A pedestrian crossing operates outside of the campus and is supervised from 8.20 a.m. until 8.50 a.m. and at the end of school until 3.40 p.m. We urge parents to encourage and model responsible use of the crossing. Students late to school will need to be assisted by parents in crossing the road if necessary.

Bikes

Children may ride their bikes to school and bikes can be safely parked in the bike shed during the day. Children must walk their bikes in the schoolyard and should wear appropriate headgear. Bike riding on the pavement is permitted for young riders and we encourage our students to share the pavements responsibly with pedestrians.

School Gates

There are four gates into the campus. All students are expected to enter by the top gate and walk through the quiet area or through the bottom gate closest to the gym following the path around to the classrooms. Children are not permitted to walk through the bus bay or the staff carpark due to safety issues in these areas.
